Jim Ball, President
Jim started out as an insurance claims adjuster and has worn many hats for insurers both in Canada and the U.S. However, his life’s work for the past 30+ years is the Reliance Insurance Group and he has been growing and nurturing it since he bought a small brokerage in 1985.
Today the Reliance Group is comprised of seven insurance or insurance related companies in both the wholesale and retail side of the business and has grown to 113 employees. Jim first got involved in marine insurance in 2000 when he bought Black Gavin Yacht Pool, a marine insurance company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Along with Dan Kim, Pacific Marine Underwriting Managers Ltd. was formed and grew across the country to Quebec.
During his career, Jim has also been a leader in both the local and national insurance communities. Jim also works tirelessly supporting his various charities and travelling with his wife Katie.
Dana Al Nammari BA, FCIP, Chief Underwriting Officer
Recently appointed as our Chief Underwriting Officer, Dana has come to Pacific Marine Underwriting Managers Ltd. with a wealth of marine insurance expertise. Dana’s focus will be with our national group of underwriters and our business development liaison with our insurers.
Dana’s inspiration to pursue an insurance career came from a family friend who was a Risk Manager for a Middle Eastern airline. Directly after University Dana entered the insurance world with Direct Insurers. Having lived and been educated in various parts of the world, Dana is fluent in French, English and Arabic.
She has worked in underwriting in property & casualty, marine cargo, hull, P & I, marine liabilities as well as onshore and offshore energy reinsurance (now Tokio Marine HCC). Dana completed CII courses through the Chartered Insurance Professional program and Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional program. She came to PMU from Intact Insurance/ AXA Marine department where she was Senior Marine Underwriter.
Dana is involved in the industry as an ACIP instructor and a member of the IIC National Education committee and The Canadian Board of Marine Underwriters. For fun, Dana has been known to plan long bike rides and kayaking adventures for her husband and son with the encouragement being her home baked treats.
